Ian Duaine 1A3 (on left) who won first prize in the Credit Union Competition. Dale Philips 1A who won first prize in a Slovinean Art Competition.

Dale Philips of Third Year was recently successful in the Credit Union Poster Competition. Dale did remarkably well to be amongst the prizewinners in this prestigious competition as the standard of entry was particularly high.

Congratulations to all students who participated in Art Competitions and especially to those who achieved great success; Dale Philips - First Year (see pic below), Iain Duane - First Year (see pic below), Daniel Connolly - 2nd Year and Michael Fleming - 6th year.

Well done to the Senior Students, Colm Bolger, Ian Mullins, Eugene Molloy, Richard Burke and their team for organising the Art Exhibition in the Library and to the 5th Year Students for their contribution to the school murals.
A pleasant and educational day was enjoyed by the 5th and 6th year students who attended the Paul Henry' Exhibition in the National Gallery, Dublin, the Hugh Lane Gallery of Modern Art, the Garden Of Remembrance. In Dublin, they viewed public sculptures, the Spire, Romanesque, Gothic, Georgian and Modern architecture.

Thanks to Clonmel Museum, Art Centre and Library for hosting the High School Students for many interesting and stimulating exhibitions.Art Exhibitors

The Field

On April 9th 2003, a number of 2nd and 3rd year classes set off for the Excel Theatre in Tipperary town to see J.B. Keane's well know play 'The Field'. The part of the Bull McCabe was played by Mick Lally and Maimie Flanagan was played by Mary McEvoy well known from Glenroe.

It was thoroughly enjoyed by all with some reservations about one or two characters that they thought were not in the least humorous when they should have been or another wasn't quite as intimidating as they were expecting. Bu in general it was an excellent production. School could never be like this!

Sincere thanks to Mr. Kenna for arranging the theatre tickets and the transport.

Music

The band The Valves, made up of Cathal Ryan (6th year), Lee O'Riordan (5th Year) and two past pupils, Alan Pike and Colin Darrer, were short listed to take part in Shockwaves, a new music competition that took place in Galway in November.

Musically Successful
The High School Brass Band achieved a very creditable 91% in their first ever Military Band Examination. The exam took place on Monday, April 29 th and they played "A Welsh Rhapsody" and "I dreamed a Dream". Congratulations to all the players and their music teacher, Ms Gannon, on their achievement. New comers are always welcome.

The Music Department had a busy time in 2002/03, the trips, to Cork to see the Cork Pops Orchestra, and to Waterford to see Vex 21. It was a very uplifting and an inspiring occasion for all.
We were also very happy to welcome Frank Taylor and the Cork School of Music, and Gerry O' Connor and Desi Williamson for a great Traditional concert.

Practical times have past and everybody performed well. Good luck to them for their written papers.
The Brass Bank is still going strong. New comers are welcome.
