School golf classic a huge success
The High School held its first ever golf classic last Friday, 16th May, in Clonmel Golf Club.
With early morning temperatures reaching 19 degrees, it was set up to be a very good day for all concerned. The format of the competition was a champagne scramble, which meant that the teams best drive was used and only the best two scores per hole were counted. The cost for a team entering a 3 ball was €150 with junior teams paying €60 per team. In all, 33 teams took part with 5 teams representing the school. Play was slow in the early part of the day but from 12.50am to 4.30pm, every 10 minute slot was filled, which was very pleasing for the organisers.
By midday the conditions were perfect for golf. The junior teams that had ventured out early in the morning were beginning to return for their lunch at the clubhouse and return their scorecards. The general mood amongst competitors throughout the day was hugely positive and this in turn made the day the success it was.
The Junior winners with a score of 98 were from 5th Year and were, Colm Tobin, Niall Dempsey and Damon Gregory.
The Competition winners came from Gleesons Bar in Irishtown with former High School student Jody Cunningham taking part.
Overall, the day was an overwhelming success. Like any fundraiser, the object is to raise much needed funds. The final profit that was raised was a very respectable €8,157, which will be used to finance the day to day running of the various sports departments within the school.
On behalf of the school, I would like to thank all the participants and sponsors, in particular Eldon's bar, for providing the BBQ and venue for the presentation that night.
The Sponsored Walk
The sponsored walk, which took place on March 27th in Powerstown Park Racecourse was undoubtedly a huge success. Thank you to all parents who helped in the organisation of the event itself, the collection of prizes and who supported their sons in collecting sponsorship. As a fundraiser it certainly achieved its target raising close to €13,000. Read More...
