Seamas Bannon

It is with great pleasure that I am able to welcome you to the C.B.S. High School Clonmel Website. The High School has a long and proud tradition of excellence in both the academic and non-academic aspects of learning. As well as demanding a high level of excellence in taught subjects, the school also strongly encourages students to participate in extra curricular actives.

In recent years the school has seen unprecedented changes with a new sports gym and state of the art teaching facilities to allow us expand the courses on offer to our students. I hope you find this website to be informative and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.

Principal’s Report
·         Senior art students went to Dublin with their art teachers (Rita O’Dwyer and Aileen Kennedy) on Thursday 27th January
·         Jamie Ahearn (Heaney), Gino Forte (Kavanagh) and Noel Perigoe (Joyce) elected to 1st year student leadership
·         High School took part in the IMTA Maths quiz in Thurles on Friday night 28th January. Team was Salem Egan (5th year), Mohamed Dablouk, Sean Kennedy and Brian Looram (all 6th year). Team won and progressed to All Ireland finals which took place in UL on 5th March where the team did extremely well. Teachers involved were Ms Olga Gannon and Ms Bernadette O’Mahony
·         3rd year aptitude tests took place on Monday 31st January – organised by guidance department 
·         1st year parent/teacher meeting took place on Tuesday 1st February
·         TY open night for parents took place on Wednesday 2nd February with presentation by TY co-ordinator Darius Delahunty
·         Dolores Powell took a group of 2nd year students to an Engineering event in WIT on16th February and a group of 5th years on Friday 18th February
·         1st year maths quiz took place on Wednesday 9th March and 81 students took part – arranged by Bernadette O’Mahony   
·         Under 19 badminton team took part took part in Munster final on 3rd February in UL and won and are through to All Ireland finals which are taking place on 6th April in Gormanstown – team is Jaco Oosthuysen, Darren Blanche, Liam McCarthy and Darren Cass. Team managed by Rodger Corcoran
·         The 1st year soccer team played Comeragh College on Monday 31st January and won 7-0. They played Mount Sion (Waterford) on Tuesday 1st March and won 3-1 – teachers involved were David Dineen and Darius Delahunty
·         Under 15 hurling team played the Abbey in a challenge match on Tuesday 25th January They played the North Mon in Munster competition on Friday 4th February – teachers involved Paddy O’Gorman and PJ Mulcahy
·         Under 18 rugby team played Charleville (away) in the semi-final of the O’ Gorman Cup on Tuesday 25th January and lost – teachers involved were Brendan Mullan and Jean Lonergan
·         Under 14 soccer team played Kilmacthomas (away) on Wednesday 26th January and won 6-0. Team played Rochestown (away) in ¼ final on Tuesday 15th February and won 2-1. Played Desmond College (Limerick) on Tuesday 15th March (home) in the semi-final and won a very good match 1-0. The teachers involved are Darius Delahunty and David Dineen
·         Under 16 ½ gaelic football team played New Ross in a challenge match on Thursday 27th January and on Monday 28th February. Team played Munster Championship match (Frewn Cup) on Wednesday 2nd February against Coláiste Chríost Rí in Kilbehenny and won a very close match on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-5. Played challenge match against the Abbey on Thursday 10th March (won easily) and are playing St Flannan’s in Munster semi-final on Wednesday 16th March. Personnel involved with team are Chris Allen, Tom Conway, Brian White and Tony Gleeson
·         High School chess team (under the guidance of their teacher Brid Wilkinson) have played a number of chess matches. Played Ursuline in Waterford and Scoil Mhuire Carrick. Players involved are Tadhg Treacy (2A4); Romald Lazarus (2A4); Davis Rusmanis (2A) and Gavin Murphy (2A4)
·         Under 16 soccer team played the Abbey (home) Waterford on Friday 28th January in Munster Minor competition and won 5-0. They played Carrigaline Cork (away) in ¼ final on Friday 4th February and lost a very close game 1-0. Teachers involved with team were David Dineen and Darius Delahunty
·         East Munster athletics took place on Friday 28th January – the High School cross country team travelled to Dungarvan to compete in the east Munster cross country championships. The minor team started the day off with high hopes (the team having had a very successful day already in Clonmel Óg. Their first man home was Anthony Tobin in 8th followed home by Patrick Clearly and Aaron Egan in 9th and 10th. These were followed home by Kyle Peters in 14th to help the team win silver medals. The minor b team won bronze medals which got the day off to a great start. The junior team were up next and all members ran well to finish 5th in the team event just missing out on qualifying for the Munster finals. The next race was to be the highlight of the day for the High School as the inter boys dominated their race. Sean Tobin led the team home in 1st followed closely by Micheal Carey in 2nd (who is improving with every race). Reece Maher ran brilliantly to finish 4th just missing out on a medal. Next home was James Murphy in 7th place (who is trying to fight injury off) followed then by Evan Egan running very well to finish 9th and he was followed home by Styn Van Der Wal in 16th which meant the team won the team title easily. Next and final race of the day was the senior boys and Neil Fox led the team in 7th with Aidan Cremins pulling off with one of his best races to get a top 15 finish. These were followed home by Brian Gleason and Christopher Browne helping the team win bronze medals. The day was very successful with the school wining 3 team medals out of 4 races. The 3 teams that won team medals now go forward to the Munster finals on February 17th at CIT – teacher involved was Kathleen Deely
·         Under 15 rugby team played Cashel Community School (away) on Tuesday 1st February in the Cleary Cup and won 20-3. They played Coláiste Pobal Roscrea on Tuesday 8th March (home) and won 27-14. The team has now qualified for semi-finals of competition and game against the Abbey on 23rd March will decide if they have a home venue. Teachers involved were Brendan Mullan and PJ Mulcahy
·         Under 16 rugby team played Newport (away) in 2nd round of the King Cup on 3rd February and lost 24-17 – teachers involved were PJ Mulcahy and Brendan Mullan
·         On Wednesday 2nd February the High School cross country team travelled to Thurles for the county cross country championships. The Minor team were led home by Patrick Cleary in 6th followed by Anthony Tobin, Aaron Egan and Gavin Ryan in 8th 9th and 11th respectively. Dylan Kennedy and Patrick Loyola ran brilliantly to also finish in the top 20. The Junior boys were next up and they all ran very well winning silver team medals. The team was Damon Gregory, Nicky Kavanagh, Liam Powell and Michael O ‘Doherty. The Inter boys won the team title easily having Sean Tobin leading the team home in 1st followed home by Micheal Carey 2nd, Reece Maher 4th and James Murphy 5th. There were also excellent runs by Evan Egan, Stijn Van Der Wal, Alex Chadfield and Patryk Bardas. The Senior boys all ran well and were led home by Robbie Flynn 6th and he was followed home by Aidan Cremins, Cormac O' Riordan and Jack Devany in 8th, 9th and 17th respectively and this allowed the team to win a silver medal. The school tied with Thurles CBS to claim the shield as best overall school. This is the second year in a row that the High School has won the shield and the athletes hope to do a three in a row next year! Kathleen Deely managed teams.
·         East Munster cross country championships took place on Thursday 17th February and intermediate team have reached All Ireland finals with Sean Tobin coming 1st. Frank O’Keefe and the High School to sponsor team tracksuits Sean Tobin won the All-Ireland School’s Athletics (Intermediate) title on Saturday 12th March in Dublin. The High School intermediate team also claimed the All-Ireland team title – team was Sean Tobin, Micheal Carey, Evan Egan, Reece Maher, James Murphy and Stijn Van Der Wal. This is the first time an athlete from the High School has won an All-Ireland individual title at this championships and the High School is also the first school from Tipperary to win the Intermediate team title. Team coach was Ms Deely.
·         Under 17 rugby team took part in a blitz in CIT on Tuesday 8th February – teachers involved were Brendan Mullan and PJ Mulcahy
·         1st year rugby blitz took place in Clonmel on Monday 14th February and team did well – teachers involved were Brendan Mullan and Tom Kenna
·         High School under 15 rugby team played Rockwell in a challenge on Monday 14th February – teachers involved were Jean Lonergan and PJ Mulcahy
·         The High School under 14 Rice Cup team played Kilkenny CBS and Coláiste Mhuire Johnson in challenge matches and won both – teachers in charge are John Broderick and Paul O’Mahony
·         Under 17 hurling team played Killenaule in a challenge match on Tuesday 1st March and won narrowly. They played the Abbey in the Fitzgerald Cup on Wednesday9th March – staff involved are Liam Rice and Noel Russell
·         Under 14 tennis team played Rockwell college on Wednesday 2nd March in Hillview and lost 3-2 – teacher involved was Jerry Shanahan
·         Under 16 tennis team played Cashel Community College (away) on Wednesday morning 9th March and won 4-1 – teacher involved was Jerry Shanahan
·         Under 19 tennis team played Cashel Community College (away) on Tuesday 15th March and lost a very tight game 3-2 – teacher in charge was Jerry Shanahan
·         High School senior gaelic football team played Templemore in county final in Thurles on Friday 4th March and lost 0-13 to 0-11 – teachers involved were Tony Gleeson and Chris Allen
·         High School under 14 hurling team took part in a hurling blitz on Friday March 11th in De La Salle Waterford for the Brother Anselm Barret Perpetual Cup 2011 – major hurling schools in Leinster and Munster took part and High School team was beaten in final by Kilkenny CBS which was a significant achievement – teachers managing team were Paul O’Mahony and John Broderick 
·         Non uniform day (to raise funds that Ms Kenny brought to project in Kenya over mid- term) raised €1011 which is fantastic achievement in current climate
·         The results of High School Student Leadership survey into activities to be investigated by Student Leadership group have been presented to the Board and the Parent’s Council. Overall results indicated a desire for a breakfast club, a new vending machine and a pool tournament. Student Leadership team and members of the Parent’s Council have met to discuss how identified issues could be addressed (particularly breakfast club).
·         Mock exams finished on Friday 18th February and principal complimented Olga Gannon (and Angela O’Neill for professional way they had managed exams within school. Exams ran in line with SEC requirements and staff played a major role in ensuring integrity of process. Board members acknowledged work done and also the fact that every effort had been made to reduce costs of exams for parents
·         Classical Studies students and staff members Regina Tobin, Jerry Shanahan and Des Feeney travelled to Rome and Pompeii from 17th to 20th February as part of classical Studies programme
·         Agricultural Science as an option subject for Leaving Certificate to be included in the option choices for 5th year in 2011-2012)
·         LCVP coordinator Rodger Corcoran have investigated the possibility of extending subject range for LCVP programme in light of Circular 0049/2007 and information on SLSS site. As a result of this work an expanded range of subjects is now available for LCVP and Rodger Corcoran has devised an information leaflet for potential LCVP students and their parents
·         Leaving Certificate Construction Studies projects were displayed in GP area on Tuesday 15th March
·         High School sponsored cycle – High School Cruise – is taking place on 10th April starting at 10 am (following Garda approval). Principal outlined details of proposed route to Board while also requesting assistance on the day. Huge amount of work has been done by Darius Delahunty and he has been assisted by students Christopher O’ Gorman and Padraig Quinlivan and by Board member Jimmy Cass
·         Fundraising event took place on Thursday 10th March when Freddie White performed in Eldon’s Embar (sponsored night €500). Event raised almost €1000
·         The High School had 10 individuals/teams participating in the County Enterprise Final and it was a marvellous achievement that the 10 teams all got prizes. The following were the successful individual/teams: Junior: 1st Conor Molloy; 2nd Conor Lonergan, Conor Bates, William O Dwyer; Best Business plan – Michael O Reilly, Kyle Peters; Merit Award – Andrew O Keeffe, Johan Oosthuysen. Intermediate: 1st            Conor Lynch; Best innovation – Tadhg Tracey; Best Business plan – Joel O Dwyer, Conor Tobin; Merit Award – Shane O Sullivan, James Moore, Rory Maher. Senior:4th Joe Littleton, Padraig Looram, James Murphy, Liam Donnell, Robert Flynn; Best innovation – Joel O Dwyer, Conor Tobin; Senior Quiz winners – Eoin Lynch, Padraic Keating, Aidan Lawless, Séan Tobin who also won award for best business plan
·         The Green Dragon Enterprise awards took place on Monday 14th March in Limerick and a number of High School projects were selected to progress to the All- Ireland final on 23rd March in the Croke Park conference centre. These are: Welly Welly Good (P J O’Kelly); Easi Pak (Michael O’ Reilly and Kyle Peters); the Timeinators (Colm Tobin and Dillon McCoy) – teachers involved were Martina O’Reilly and Olivia Corcoran
·         Talk by Johanna Lynch took place in High School on 9th March at 8pm entitled Boy will be Boys. Large attendance and interesting presentation

School informed that it would have SPHE subject inspection on week starting 4th April 2011.

·         High School took part in the IMTA Maths quiz in Thurles on Friday night 28th January. Team was Salem Egan (5th year), Mohamed Dablouk, Sean Kennedy and Brian Looram (all 6th year). Team won and progressed to All Ireland finals which took place in UL on 5th March where the team did extremely well. Teachers involved were Ms Olga Gannon and Ms Bernadette O’Mahony
·         3rd year aptitude tests took place on Monday 31st January – organised by guidance department 
·         1st year parent/teacher meeting took place on Tuesday 1st February
·         TY open night for parents took place on Wednesday 2nd February with presentation by TY co-ordinator Darius Delahunty
·         Dolores Powell took a group of 2nd year students to an Engineering event in WIT on16th February and a group of 5th years on Friday 18th February
·         1st year maths quiz took place on Wednesday 9th March and 81 students took part – arranged by Bernadette O’Mahony   
·         Under 19 badminton team took part took part in Munster final on 3rd February in UL and won and are through to All Ireland finals which are taking place on 6th April in Gormanstown – team is Jaco Oosthuysen, Darren Blanche, Liam McCarthy and Darren Cass. Team managed by Rodger Corcoran

·         High School chess team (under the guidance of their teacher Brid Wilkinson) have played a number of chess matches. Played Ursuline in Waterford and Scoil Mhuire Carrick. Players involved are Tadhg Treacy (2A4); Romald Lazarus (2A4); Davis Rusmanis (2A) and Gavin Murphy (2A4)

·         East Munster athletics took place on Friday 28th January – the High School cross country team travelled to Dungarvan to compete in the east Munster cross country championships. The minor team started the day off with high hopes (the team having had a very successful day already in Clonmel Óg. Their first man home was Anthony Tobin in 8th followed home by Patrick Clearly and Aaron Egan in 9th and 10th. These were followed home by Kyle Peters in 14th to help the team win silver medals. The minor b team won bronze medals which got the day off to a great start. The junior team were up next and all members ran well to finish 5th in the team event just missing out on qualifying for the Munster finals. The next race was to be the highlight of the day for the High School as the inter boys dominated their race. Sean Tobin led the team home in 1st followed closely by Micheal Carey in 2nd (who is improving with every race). Reece Maher ran brilliantly to finish 4th just missing out on a medal. Next home was James Murphy in 7th place (who is trying to fight injury off) followed then by Evan Egan running very well to finish 9th and he was followed home by Styn Van Der Wal in 16th which meant the team won the team title easily. Next and final race of the day was the senior boys and Neil Fox led the team in 7th with Aidan Cremins pulling off with one of his best races to get a top 15 finish. These were followed home by Brian Gleason and Christopher Browne helping the team win bronze medals. The day was very successful with the school wining 3 team medals out of 4 races. The 3 teams that won team medals now go forward to the Munster finals on February 17th at CIT – teacher involved was Kathleen Deely

They played Coláiste Pobal Roscrea on Tuesday 8th March (home) and won 27-14. The Senior boys all ran well and were led home by Robbie Flynn 6th and he was followed home by Aidan Cremins, Cormac O' Riordan and Jack Devany in 8th, 9th and 17th respectively and this allowed the team to win a silver medal. The school tied with Thurles CBS to claim the shield as best overall school. This is the second year in a row that the High School has won the shield and the athletes hope to do a three in a row next year! Kathleen Deely managed teams.

Frank O’Keefe and the High School to sponsor team tracksuits Sean Tobin won the All-Ireland School’s Athletics (Intermediate) title on Saturday 12th March in Dublin. The High School intermediate team also claimed the All-Ireland team title – team was Sean Tobin, Micheal Carey, Evan Egan, Reece Maher, James Murphy and Stijn Van Der Wal. This is the first time an athlete from the High School has won an All-Ireland individual title at this championships and the High School is also the first school from Tipperary to win the Intermediate team title. Team coach was Ms Deely.

·         High School under 14 hurling team took part in a hurling blitz on Friday March 11th in De La Salle Waterford for the Brother Anselm Barret Perpetual Cup 2011 – major hurling schools in Leinster and Munster took part and High School team was beaten in final by Kilkenny CBS which was a significant achievement – teachers managing team were Paul O’Mahony and John Broderick 
·         Non uniform day (to raise funds that Ms Kenny brought to project in Kenya over mid- term) raised €1011 which is fantastic achievement in current climate
·         The results of High School Student Leadership survey into activities to be investigated by Student Leadership group have been presented to the Board and the Parent’s Council. Overall results indicated a desire for a breakfast club, a new vending machine and a pool tournament. Student Leadership team and members of the Parent’s Council have met to discuss how identified issues could be addressed (particularly breakfast club).
·         Mock exams finished on Friday 18th February and principal complimented Olga Gannon (and Angela O’Neill for professional way they had managed exams within school. Exams ran in line with SEC requirements and staff played a major role in ensuring integrity of process. Board members acknowledged work done and also the fact that every effort had been made to reduce costs of exams for parents
·         Classical Studies students and staff members Regina Tobin, Jerry Shanahan and Des Feeney travelled to Rome and Pompeii from 17th to 20th February as part of classical Studies programme
·         Agricultural Science as an option subject for Leaving Certificate to be included in the option choices for 5th year in 2011-2012)
·         LCVP coordinator Rodger Corcoran have investigated the possibility of extending subject range for LCVP programme in light of Circular 0049/2007 and information on SLSS site. As a result of this work an expanded range of subjects is now available for LCVP and Rodger Corcoran has devised an information leaflet for potential LCVP students and their parents
·         Leaving Certificate Construction Studies projects were displayed in GP area on Tuesday 15th March
·         High School sponsored cycle – High School Cruise – is taking place on 10th April starting at 10 am (following Garda approval). Principal outlined details of proposed route to Board while also requesting assistance on the day. Huge amount of work has been done by Darius Delahunty and he has been assisted by students Christopher O’ Gorman and Padraig Quinlivan and by Board member Jimmy Cass
·         Fundraising event took place on Thursday 10th March when Freddie White performed in Eldon’s Embar (sponsored night €500). Event raised almost €1000
·         The High School had 10 individuals/teams participating in the County Enterprise Final and it was a marvellous achievement that the 10 teams all got prizes. The following were the successful individual/teams: Junior: 1st Conor Molloy; 2nd Conor Lonergan, Conor Bates, William O Dwyer; Best Business plan – Michael O Reilly, Kyle Peters; Merit Award – Andrew O Keeffe, Johan Oosthuysen.   • The postponed 3rd year parent/teacher meeting took place on 15th December with an attendance rate of 82%

  • Student Leadership team held a quiz for 1st years on Tuesday 21st December and it was won by Cian Maloney, Shane Prout, James Fee and Billy Cockburn with an excellent score of 74 out of 80

  • Rape Crisis Centre gave talks to 6th year students on Tuesday 21st December and Tuesday 12th January

  • 2 students Mohamed El Kanzi and Ryan Lynch were selected as regional finalists in the Doodle4Google competition

  • TY Toastmaster’s night took place in the High School on Thursday 13th January at 7.30pm. Very entertaining night that reflected hard work of students and their Toastmaster mentor Dennis Corcoran

  • CAO information night took place in the High School on Monday 17th January. Talk given by Ms Maunsell and was very well received

  • A number of 6th year students went to an Open Day in WIT on Tuesday 18th January with teachers Carmel Maunsell and Dolores Powell

  • Copy of DVD of school show Guys and Dolls now available at a cost of €20 from High School office

  • Brendan Mullan and Angela O’Neill took their 5th year English classes to see Hamlet in Waterford on Tuesday 18th January

  • An appeal has been lodged against the decision of the Equality Tribunal following legal advice

  • High School has applied under the SWS scheme to upgrade fire alarm system so that it meets current regulations

  • Mock Exams taking place from 7th to 18th February (both dates inclusive) – prior to mid-term break – at a cost of €100 which is a reduction on last year. Timetable agreed between all schools following consultation.

  • State examination costs are €109 for Leaving Certificate ;€103 for Junior Certificate and €284 for repeat Leaving certificate students

  • Night study has commenced since Thursday 13th January and will continue until Friday May 27th – cost of €140

  • High School team had a photo included in 1 Good Idea calendar for month of December

  • Large number of students working with Maureen Purcell (STAG) to create a stained glass window in the prayer room

  • Visit by students studying Classical Studies to Italy take place from 17th February to 20th February – organised by Des Feeney and he will be accompanied by Regina Tobin and Jerry Shanahan on the trip

  • Staff in ASD classes working on developing a sensory garden – STAG also willing to assist

  • Under 19 badminton team took part in county championships on Thursday 20th January in Templemore and won – brought to event by Ms. Oosthuysen. Team will take part in Munster final on 3rd February in UL

  • 1st year soccer team played Killenaule on Friday 21st January and won 8-0 – teachers involved were David Dineen and Darius Delahunty

  • Darius Delahunty (along with the principal and staff) is currently investigating possibility of arranging a sponsored cycle on Sunday 27th March for staff, students and all comers – need for assistance with event

  • Catholic Schools week takes place from 30th January to 5th February

  • IT equipment being updated within all classrooms and it is hoped to have all works completed by the middle of February

  • Talk by Joanna Lynch finalised and title will be Boys will be Boys – proposed date is 9th March at 8pm and open to all parents to attend.

Principal's Report May 2010
 
  • Brendan Martin (1A2) and Mark O’Reilly (1A4) received national award in Bank of Ireland entrepreneurial section at Junior level in the Osprey hotel on 7th May. School was represented by Jerry Shanahan and Martina O’Reilly. Students received prize of €1500 while school received €3000
  • All Ireland final of the Student Enterprise Awards (SEA) took place in Dublin on 27th April in Croke Park. The High School was represented by Brendan Martin (1A2) and Mark O’Reilly (1A4) who won the overall National title thereby becoming the Young Entrepreneur National Award winners. Exceptional achievement – prize of €300 plus beautiful bog oak trophy. Teachers involved were Carol Kenny and Martina O’Reilly 
  • The last 16 of the Examiner Quiz took place in Carlow on Wednesday 5th May where we lost by 2 points. Extremely disappointing for team and their manager Bernadette O’Mahony but excellent achievement to have done so well in the competition
  • TY walk to Mellery took place on Wednesday 5th May – teachers involved were David Dineen and Tom Morrissey
  • Public Speaking Examinations (Leinster School of Music) took place in the High School recently. Shane Donnelly won a silver medal in his final level exams (highest award) and the following students from TY received medals in their grades: Colin Aylward, Ivan Chadfield, Liam McCarthy, Edmund Morrissey and Jaco Oosthuysen. Principal acknowledged huge amount of work done by Anne O’Loughlin to prepare students for exams. Presentation of certificates took place on Monday 17th May
  • TY class and teachers Marian Keating and Sineád NÍ Shuilleabháin went to the Gaeltacht on 13th and 14th May
  • TY retreats took place on Wednesday 19th May. Staff involved were Colm Chadwick and Sheila Ryan
  • James Bourke (Christian missionary) spoke to TY students on 18th May re project in Uganda – needed assistance with bag packing and got a number of volunteers following his talk
  • TY driver education programme took place in April
  • Final of Irish Junior Maths competition (organised by I.M.T.A) took place on 15th May in the Presentation Secondary School Clonmel – students involved were Neil McMahon and Tadhg Treacy. Tadhg was the overall winner of Junior section and when all results were complied nationally Tadhg finished 12th in Ireland which is a remarkable achievement.
  • Kieran Cleary and Company Solicitors have again provided a ‘French and Rugby Scholarship’ for one High School student to travel to the French Sports and Language Centre in Soustons, near Biarritz, this summer. The successful student will participate in French classes and specialised rugby tuition. Students had to meet the following criteria to be eligible for the scholarship:
o        be a current 5th Year student
o        study French
o        has played and continues to play rugby for the High School
       The scholarship includes return airfares to France and full board accommodation.             
       Interviews took place on Thursday 20th May and winner of scholarship was Tony Cantwell        
  • High School selected for finals of 1 good idea project which took place in Dublin Castle on 6th March – students involved were Billy Redmond, Barry Dalton, Gavin Wynne, Ivan Chadfield, Jaco Oosthuysen and Billy Tobin (all TY). Students were the Munster winners of the climate change photo competition and received a beautiful trophy for the school. Teacher responsible was Carmel Fitzsimons
  • Exhibition of 5th year art work took place in Market Street shopping centre during week commencing Monday 10th May. Room sponsored by Superquin.
  • Rockwell gaelic football blitz took place on Tuesday 11th May and High School entered 4 teams one of which reached semi final of competition. Staff involved were Brian White and Tom Conway
  • East Munster Athletics took place in Waterford on Wednesday 12th May and High School retained the Br O’Donovan cup. Teacher involved was Kathleen Deely
  • Sports day took place on Friday 14th May and was hugely successful. Day organised by Darius Delahunty
  • SE under 14 ½ soccer played Rockwell on Wednesday 28th April in ¼ final and won. Played St Augustan’s Dungarvan in semi final on 19th May (away) and won 4-2 on penalties. Teachers involved are Darius Delahunty and David Dineen
  • Under 16 ½ Munster soccer team played Cashel in semi final and lost keenly fought match. Teachers involved are Tom Morrissey and Darius Delahunty
  • Under 16 tennis team played Newtown (Waterford) on 29th April and lost to a very good team. Teacher involved was Jerry Shanahan
  • Under 14 tennis team won Munster Shield beating Patrician Mallow 3-2 in final which took place in Limerick. Team was Shay Whelan, Shane Lonergan, Michael Tobin and James Dillon
  • Classes 2A4 and TY climbed Slieve na mBan on 24th May – teachers involved were Tom Conway and Kathleen Deely
  • Classes 2A3 and 2A1 climbed to cross on 25th May – teachers involved were Catherine Croke, Sineád Ní Shuilleabháin, Dolores Powell and Principal. 
 
 
Board congratulated Regina and Garret Tobin on the recent birth of their daughter Anna. 
 
Semiton had donated €1500 to under 15 gaelic football team to purchase tracksuits following work by Tom Conway. 
 
Guidelines for State Examinations sent to parents (approved by Board).
 
Board approved trip to Rome and Pompeii by classical studies students in 2011 subject to confirmation of numbers.
 
6th year graduation took place on Thursday 20th May in SS Peter and Pauls’ church and was a wonderful and appropriate ceremony.
 
 TY graduation took place on Thursday 27th May and all Board members were invited.
 
Medal presentations took place in Park Hotel on Friday 28th May at 7.30pm.

  • Staff and students were commended on results achieved in Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate examinations. Results well above national average and reflected hard work of students and staff. Principal expressed concern over number of students taking lower level papers and leaving examination centres early
  • 1st year retreats took place on 4th and 5th October in Bridge Club Clonmel. Retreats given by peer ministers, Annette Hickey, Des Feeney and Sheila Ryan and feedback was very positive
  • 6th year geography students along with their teachers (Tom Morrissey, Con O’Suillivan and Barry Keane) carried out project in Tramore on Monday 20th September
  • TY students, with teachers Carol Kenny and Aileen Kennedy, went to Delphi on 22nd, 23rd and 24th September
  • TY students with teachers Darius Delahunty and Tom Morrissey went to visit a wind farm in Tournafulla on 8th October
  • Parents’ Council AGM took place on Wednesday 22nd September and there was a good attendance. Principal had presented Board’s Report (approved by Chairperson) for 2009-2010 school year at AGM and copy of annual report is also available on school website. Guest speaker was Senator Phil Prendergast who outlined sex education programme she gives to students in second level schools
  • Dolores Powell and Carmel Maunsell took 6th years to Mid West Careers Exhibition on 28th September and are taking 6th year students to Limerick on 12th October for Limerick Colleges Open Day
  • Rodger Corcoran took 16 LCVP students
