There are students in the school who may require additional help. Their needs are being met in the following ways:
A number off first and second year students are receiving extra help in English and / or Maths.
Students who perform significantly below their chronological age, due to a specific learning difficulty, weaker ability or emotional and behavioural difficulties are targeted.
First Year students are identified on the basis of assessment test results and information received from the primary schools.
Second Year students are identified on the basis of First Year exam results and referral from class teachers.
Students are tested and appropriate programmes of work are devised for them. These programme are implemented in small groups or on an individual basis.
OBJECTIVES
- To foster a whole school approach through:
- increased liaison between Remedial/Resource teacher and class teachers.
- organising workshops and inservice training to help create an extra pool of skills in the area.
- building up resource materials and making them available to class teachers.
- To make information available to parents which would enable them to help their child with special needs
- To allocate more time to special needs in order to adequately meet the needs of the students.
- To secure the allocation of an ex-quota Special Needs Teacher from the Department of Education and Science.
