Just weeks after starting an athletics scholarship at the University of Mississippi Sean Tobin (Clonmel AC and High School Past Pupil) became the first athlete in the Mississippi school’s history to run a sub four minute mile. Competing at the Husky Classic in Seattle Washington Tobin won section 4 of the mile in a time of 3:59.91 to become the 39th Irishman to break four minutes for the classic distance.
“I’m proud of Sean,” head coach Brian O’Neal said. “To break four minutes and set a lifetime personal best in his first mile with us, I’m excited for what the future holds for him and our whole team. Our men’s team is rounding into form at the right time.”
His achievement comes just a week after helping his school break another school record when he ran 1:50 for the 800m leg of the DMR for a time of 9:40.17 at the Armory in New York.
Congratulations to Sean from all of the staff and students in the High School Clonmel.
