
The High School has always enjoyed a rich tradition in GAA & has been a nursery for many top GAA stars of the past & the present & currently participate in the Harty Cup, the Munster A senior hurling championship, Munster premier school’s hurling competition, along with having participating teams from 1st year to senior level.
The High School participates at both Munster Post Primary Schools & at Tipperary schools level, entering 2 teams at many age groups at county level. The school has enjoyed considerable success in it’s history. Notable successes include winning the senior Munster B championship, the Corn Thomáis Mhic Cholaim, in 2025 when they defeated Scariff Community School in the final in Ballyagran to be crowned Munster champions. In 2011, the High School won the Rice Cup, the under 14 competitions for all Edmund Rice & CBS schools by defeating Midleton in the final in Fraher Field, Dungarvan.

The school is honoured to be represented by clubs in the south Tipperary & the west Waterford area such as St Mary’s, Moyle Rovers, Kilsheelan/Kilcash, Newcastle, Clerihan, Ballyneale, Ballybacon/Grange, Clonmel Óg & Fourmilewater. There are strong ties with our local clubs to support one another & promote hurling within the local area.
Famous former students that have gone on to represent Tipperary & Waterford in hurling with distinction include Michael ‘Babs’ Keating, Donncha Fahey, Declan Browne, Shane Walsh, Bill Maher, Conor Gleeson, Mark Kehoe to name but a few, with many of these players winning All-Ireland titles at underage or senior level. Year on year, we have students who represent both counties from under 14 to minor level, representing their county & school with distinction.
Massive work is put into hurling within the school, with our 4G astro turf pitch open for supervised puck arounds at lunch each day & at least 2 teachers involved in the coaching & management of each team, & we have close on 150 students who hurl with the school each year.
