Year – 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th

Student Awards Ceremony October 2013

The School Awards Ceremony took place on the 25th of October in the school GP. Awards were presented to those students who excelled academically achieving the best results in their class and year group in last summer’s exams and in the Junior and Leaving Certificate. They were; Cillian Crowe, Oisin Napier, Seamus McMahon, Eoghan Kelly, Cathal Ryan and Ciaran O’Brien (Who won the overall best First Year 2012/13); Kevin Grace, James Patrick Brophy, Eoin Hoctor, Conor Flynn, Darragh Lynch, Daniel Trass and Yamen Al Fathil (Who won the overall best Second Year 2012/13), Patrick Cleary and Stephen Lahert who achieved the best Junior Cert. results this year; Michael Murphy, Lorcan Walsh, Muru Waters, Paul Laureano and Patrick Morrissey (Who won the overall best Fifth Year 2012/13); David Hayes and Cathal O’Brien who scored the highest Leaving Cert. results in the school in August.

Sixty students were nominated for creativity awards. Ciaran O’Brien (1st Year), Michael Bridges (2nd Year), Alan Acheson & David McNamara (3rd Year) and Drew Hickey (5th Year) were the overall winners.

  • 25 were nominated for sports awards. Mark Stokes (First Year), Calvin Boland (2nd year), Aaron Egan (3rd Year) and Conor Gleeson (5th Year) took the top awards.
  • 100 students were nominated by teachers to be deserving of credit for their general effort and excellent behaviour in the Student of the Year category. Oisin Napier (First Year), Ross Duggan, Cathal Kenny and Daniel Traas (2nd year), Anthony Tobin (3rd year) and Aidan Murphy (5th Year) were named as the students of the year in their year groups for 2012/13.
  • Also on the day 14 students from last year’s Transition Year Class received Bronze Gaisce Awards, presented by Mr. Liam Rice who accompanied them last year on their activities. Thanks to Marie Connelly, a former member of staff who co-ordinated the event for the students and to Dolores Powell, the Transition Year Co-Ordinator.
  • Luke Noonan was presented with the Cleary Rugby Scholarship. Thanks to Cleary and Cleary and Clonmel Rugby Club, who were represented by Tony O’Gorman, for their sponsorship of the award.
  • Thank you to Ms. Grainne Browne who organised the event so successfully. Also thank you to Boston Scientific who sponsored the awards ceremony. They were represented by T.J. Kinsella on the day who spoke to the students about his own experiences as a student in the High School.
